The Inventor of the Cellphone Says: Put Them Down and “Get a Life!”

You might not recognize the name Martin Cooper, but you spend hours a day worshipping one of his creations.  And no, he isn’t the founder of Netflix.

Martin is 92 years old now, but about 50 years ago, he invented the world’s first CELLPHONE.  It was 1973 . . . and the phone was called the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X.

Obviously, it looks nothing like the smartphones we have now.  His phone was basically a 13-inch brick of plastic with an antenna sticking out.

Martin was on a BBC morning talk show recently, and he said that he spends less than 5% of his time on his mobile phone.  And he seemed shocked when someone suggested that they spent around FIVE HOURS on theirs.

He said, quote, “Do you really?  You really spend five hours a day?  Get a life!”
