Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins Wants to Bring Back Baseball to Fairgrounds

This week, Shreveport mayor Adrian Perkins announced a partnership between the city and a Texas-based company to bring baseball back to the Fairgrounds.

While this is certainly exciting, I think I will stay cautiously optimistic. While I would absolutely love to see baseball return to our city, this feels more like a pipedream than a realistic reality.

Let’s face it, Shreveport is better when professional baseball has a home here. Sadly, that hasn’t been the case in many years. In fact, during the final few years of baseball at Fairgrounds Field, our community as a whole simply did not support the team, which is why they eventually relocated, leaving Fairgrounds Field to die a slow and painful death.

That death, in the form of a near-million-dollar demolition, has been put on hold due to health concerns in regard to the bats that call Fairgrounds Field home.

This week, three weeks before the election, Mayor Perkins announced a partnership with REV Entertainment to build a multi-use stadium at the Fairgrounds. There is no timetable currently for the project. During his announcement, he stated that minor league baseball is coming back to Shreveport. So at least to some degree, he seems invested in making sure this goes through.

If you have ideas about this project, Mayor Perkins is taking any and all suggestions. You can use this form to submit your thoughts.
