Election day was quite stressful for all of our mayoral candidates. Hopefuls LeVette Fuller and Mario Chavez put forth wonderful campaigns, but came up short once the votes were tallied. Current Shreveport mayor Adrian Perkins possibly suffered the biggest blow of the night, coming in fourth place after Chavez.
Once the dust settled, only two remained. Tom Arceneaux and Senator Greg Tarver. Arceneaux led the way with votes, but Tarver’s final numbers forced a mayoral run-off.
Now, both candidates will put everything they’ve got into the upcoming run-off. Tarver told KTBS that he has already sent messages to Perkins, Fuller, and Chavez in an effort to gain their endorsements, but as of this writing, he has not heard from either of the three.
Tarver says, “Even if they say no, I’m going to the people, regardless. No one controls your vote. No one controls my vote. I have to persuade you that I’m the best candidate.”
On the other side, Arceneaux is heading into the run-off with high expectations. He says, “When you look at the returns and see what votes went to other candidates, we think most of those votes are going to come to us. And that puts us over the top. So we think not only is there a good chance — we actually believe we’re going to win.”
The runoff election is Saturday, December 10.
