Several Louisiana Monkeys Have Been Stolen

Ok, which one of you stole these monkeys from a Louisiana zoo?

The Broussard Police Department is investigating the theft of 12 squirrel monkeys from a habitat at Zoosiana over the weekend. Police Chief Vance Olivier says they have an idea of how the burglary happened.

“They were able to enter into the habitat area, he made an entry in there and from there we believe that he took some of the animals from that location,” said Olivier.

A squirrel monkey is the size of a squirrel, so about a foot long, weighing two pounds. If you keep them as a pet, they are known to be very destructive, and aggressive during the breeding season and they can bite.

Olivier says all safety measures have been taken to secure the Zoo and other animals.

“So we increased our patrols over there since they reported that to us, we’ve heightened our security with more patrols right now just in an event that they would try to make a second attempt,” said Olivier.

All other animals at the zoo have been accounted for.

Anyone with information on this incident are urged to call the Broussard Police Department at 337-837-6259, LA Department of Wildlife Fisheries or Crimes Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
