Shreveport Speak Out: Did You Have A Job With A Crazy Sick Day Policy?

Some people do take advantage of sick days.  But did this manager go a little too far here? Shreveport-Bossier peep – have you ever experienced something like this?

An Olive Garden manager in Overland Park, Kansas sent a long email to employees, threatening to FIRE anyone who called in sick more than once this month.  But instead, SHE got canned by corporate.

The full message she sent is long.  But here are the highlights . . .

She started by saying, quote, “Call-offs are occurring at a staggering rate.  From now on, if you call off, you might as well go out and look for another job.  We are no longer tolerating ANY excuse for calling off.”

But the next line is what really got her in trouble.  Quote, “If you’re sick, you need to come prove it to us.  If your DOG DIED, you need to BRING HIM IN and prove it to us.”  (???)

She added that, “If it’s a ‘family emergency’ and you can’t say, too bad.  Go work somewhere else.  If you only want morning shifts, too bad.  Go work at a bank.”

She said if anyone “calls out more than ONCE in the next 30 days,” they will not have a job.  Then she bragged about how she’s never called in sick in 11 years, even when she WAS sick.  That’s a questionable choice in the FOOD-service industry.

Some people online are taking her side, and think people DO lie about sick days a lot.  But Olive Garden put out a statement and said they’ve already fired her for it.

Quote, “We strive to provide a caring and respectful work environment for our team members.  This message is not aligned with our company’s values.  We can confirm we have parted ways with this manager.”
