Angie Stone, co-founder of hip-hop trio The Sequence and singer of R&B hits like “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” has died at the age of 63. A representative for the Grammy-nominated singer confirms that she was killed in a car crash involving an 18-wheeler on Saturday (March 1). Stone’s daughter, Ladi Diamond, also announced the tragic news with a post on Facebook, where she writes, “My mommy is gone.” Stone was born Angela Laverne Brown in 1961 in Columbia, South Carolina, and launched her music career with The Sequence, celebrated for their 1979 track “Funk You Up.” After shifting to R&B in the 1990s, she achieved success with hits like “No More Rain (In This Cloud)” and “Wish I Didn’t Miss You.” Stone also was a successful songwriter, collaborating with music stars like D’Angelo (with whom she shares a son, Michael), Alicia Keys, and Lenny Kravitz. Stone’s music legacy spans 10 solo albums, highlighted by three Grammy nominations and her 2024 induction into the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame. (People)
